HARRIS: 'I ENJOY VOTING AGANST THE CONSTITUTION'

(Dissociated Press) Andy Harris tweeted the other day: 'I enjoy voting against the Constitution and do so every chance I get.'

This was in response to the comment of another GOP freshman, Justin Amash, R Michigan (age 31), who posted on Facebook that he did not vote to defund Planned Parenthood (HR 1):

“Legislation that names a specific private organization to defund (rather than all organizations that engage in a particular activity) is improper and arguably unconstitutional.

HARRIS COMPARES TEA PARTY TO TALIBAN

(Dissociated Press) Speaking to a group of reporter in his congressional office at 6 AM Saturday morning,  a flushed Andy Harris announced that he was disappointed that his GOP colleagues in the House and Senate had agreed to keep the government open.

"We have missed a real opportunity here to drive home the point that women and women's health is a contradiction in terms."

"The Tea Party and the Taliban have a lot in common, which is a genuine disgust for feisty women."

"It is certainly not enough for me," Harris said, raising his voice,"that we defund abortion services. We have to completely defund organizations that provide health care to poor women."

"We have to be-head these groups!"

"Don't kid yourselves. That's why I came here to Washington."

"This sort of literal cutting is a lot more important to me than overall reductions in the federal budget, which is why I have already voted to increase federal spending."

"Look at my record."

"I am a co-sponsor of HB 217, legislation that will amend the Public Health Service Act to prohibit ANY federal family planning assistance."

"That means that women won't be able to get preventive medical care and will have to wait until they are sick and then have to go to an ER."

"ER visits rather than preventive health care through an insurance plan will cost more money than the government spends now, but so what?"

"The whole point is to demean women."

"That is what I am about."

"And don't forget my co-sponsorship of HB 358, the Protect Life Act. This bill prohibits federal funds from being used to cover ANY part of the costs of ANY health plan that includes coverage of abortion services."

"Of course, this provision, if we can get it passed into law, will also force women to the nearest ER, after they are too sick to work or take care of their kids - which is great!"

"I am happy to cut the budget, except of course for subsidies for oil exploration and stuff like that, but I will live with increases in federal expenditures, like ER costs, so long as fewer programs are out there that offer preventive health care for women."

"I was really happy to vote to make rape a legal mode of conception, such as in HB 3, when it was introduced. I will be looking to make other changes in the criminal laws, in the months ahead."

"My message to women? Marry a rich guy, and do what he wants.

HARRIS TO DONATE HIS SHUTDOWN SALARY TO PLANNED PARENTHOOD

(Dissociated Press) Congressman Andy Harris has announced that he will donate his shutdown salary to a charity - Planned Parenthood.

In a statement first released from his office on April 1st Representative Harris stated,

"It is ridiculous to  defund an entire nation in order to bar funding for a single organization."

"I personally can see the difference between funding abortion services and funding other services for women's health."

"I regret my earlier vote to block funding for Planned Parenthood, since this group does not use any federal money for abortion services anyway. I don't know what I was thinking. Maybe my chair in the House is too close to Rep. Pence."

I have asked the Sargent of Arms to re-locate me, if he can."

"Finally, let me add this:

"April Fools!!

"Of course we ought to de-fund Planned Parenthood!"

"The only people this organization serves are poor women and who wants that!"

HARRIS: 'I am not here to give a hearing to entitlement types'

(Dissociated Press) Being driven around his district this week, Rep Andy Harris was musing to himself; apparently, he was sitting on his cell phone and inadvertently rang up this reporter.

Harris said,

"God, posturing is so much easier than actually governing. No one seems to notice - which is a break for me."

"My vote barring the EPA from monitoring air and water and coal mines . . . why did I do that and how did I get away with that? Amazing! All I gotta do is say, my constituents have to take a look at the regs . . . people eat that up like dessert. Not regulating coal mines? Are you kidding me?"

And we passed that without having to actually pass a law - just a little bitty rider to an actual bill."

"This is too sweet!"

"An' I don't even have to be consistent. All I have to do is come up with the lamest sham of a reason and the press goes . . . 'Next!' "

"I said the reason for the anti-EPA vote was that businesses back in my district need time to give input . . . "

". . . on coal mine regs! The last time there was coal in my district was about 100 million years ago, if then."

"The media hotshots don't even ask me to explain stuff . . . like, if input is such a big deal to me, why did I vote to completely defund Planned Parenthood without giving Planned Parenthood a hearing or the women they serve a hearing?"

Well, the truth is . . . poor women don't get a hearing! Not from me. Not when I was in the Maryland senate and certainly not in DC!"

"I am not here to give a hearing to entitlement types. Not yesterday, not today, not ever. . ."

. . . not ever!"

HARRIS: 'I AM SMARTER THAN OIL EXECS, ONE AT LEAST'

(Dissociated Press) John Hofmeiseter, Shell Oil retired CEO, testifying before a Congressional Committee, declared that Big Oil did not need continued subsidies, at least so long as oil prices are rising.

Representative Andy Harris, First District, Maryland, was not impressed.

"What does he know?" Harris mused, "If he was any good, he would not be retired, would he? I retired Wayne Gilcrist, didn't I? Cause he was no good, either."

With that, Harris voted with 100% of GOP members of the House to extend subsidies to the oil industry.

At the same time, Harris, claiming budget deficits required it, joined with his GOP colleagues in a 100% defunding directed at Planned Parenthood.

"Women and children are not where it's at for me," Harris stated.

"You want to know how many kids contributed to my election campaign?"

ANDY HARRIS REGRETS PLANNED PARENTHOOD DEFUND VOTE

(Dissociated Press) Representative Andy Harris trapped a D/Press reporter in a Capitol Hill elevator to declare his chagrin for his vote the other day to completely defund Planned Parenthood.

"I'm a gas passer, you know, and I was passing gas just before the vote," Rep. Harris said, "I guess I got a little disoriented.

"Anyway, I regret that vote.

"We ought not vote on anything without hearing from the parties most effected, which in this case, are PP staff and women who receive a range of medical services at PP offices around the country.

"Giving everyone a chance to be heard is a huge deal with me. Really, really huge.

"This is why I voted to block a bunch of new EPA regs from taking effect, until business groups in my district have a chance to meet with the EPA and discuss their concerns.

"It would be totally inconsistent for me to defund Planned Parenthood without giving them a hearing.

"If you have any idea how I can get in touch with Planned Parenthood, contact my office and we'll set something up."
